OUGD603 / Website Design / Photos

Photos of the clients work / workshop that will be on the website.

I have stuck to block colours, using greys / off whites as the client said he doesn't want plain white.

Have also been playing around with the typeface - DeVinne has been chosen as it gives an element of class - linking to the feel of antiques / the standard the client wants to portray through the website.

OUGD603 / Website Design / Using WIX / Home Page

At first, I attempted to use a template on WIX for the website (below), although after struggling to make the design and look the client wanted using the template I decided to start it completely from scatch.

After I got rid of the template I found it a lot easier to work with WIX as I had as much freedom as I wanted - meaning I could match the clients needs as closely as possible.

When talking to the client - he sent me a photo of some wood veneers for a possible header. After trying this out and sending it back to we both decided it looked a bit too much / busy.

OUGD603 / Up Yer Sleeve / Ideas

I have approached this by aiming to use bold shapes / colours, taking influence from other Nigerian funk record designs from the 70s.

OUGD603 / Up Yer Sleeve / Research

NIGERIAN FUNK

Onyeabor’s popular music was released in the 70’s along with a lot of other funk music of that time - I have been looking at Nigerian funk records of that era to get an idea of the style that was associated with the music.

OUGD603 / UP YER SLEEVE! / Good Name - William Onyeabor

Due to a number of circumstances, there will no longer be a physical exhibition for 'Up Yer Sleeve'.

Instead, we have to submit the work digitally, to allow the show to go on in some form or another. The exhibition will be curated using an online platform.

The track I was allocated was Good Name by William Onyeabor. I have been doing some research:

'William Onyeabor was a Nigerian funk musician and businessman. Onyeabor's songs are often heavily rhythmic and synthesized, occasionally epic in scope, with lyrics decrying war and sung by both Onyeabor himself and female backing vocalists.'
